HRCC Speaks on Madonna 's Attempt to adopt Mercy
HRCC has requested the Court to direct the government to set up a proper child protection system, so that Malawi takes care of its own children as obliged under the CRC. The network has also requested the court to uphold the resident requirement and to fully assess Madonna´s second adoption attempt and determine whether the action fits in the category of measure of last resort.

In a press statement issued on 20th January 2009, the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) welcomed President Bingu Wa Mutharika's remarks on forgiveness which he made during the opening of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) convention held mid-January this year. The network, however, also raised concerns on the soaring fuel price, food shortage and lack of intra-party tolerance within political parties.

HRCC intends to carry out an assessment of the effectiveness of Malawi 's Parliamentary Committees in the way they carry out their functions. HRCC is inviting its member organisations to express their interest to participate in the second phase of the Capacity Building Exchange Programme that it is meant to facilitate cross-learning within HRCC member organisations. The initiative came about because of recommendations that were made in a programme review that HRCC commissioned to assess impact of its interventions.
